Meghalaya: NPP leader Conrad Sangma to be sworn-in as the Chief Minister tomorrow

National People's Party leader Conrad Sangma will be sworn-in as the next Chief Minister of Meghalaya tomorrow. Union minister and senior BJP leader KJ Alphons told media persons in Shillong that Governor Ganga Prasad has invited Mr Sangma to form a new government in the state.

Mr Sangma enjoys the support of 34 newly elected MLAs from BJP, HSPDP, United Democratic Party, Peoples Democratic Front and Independent.

Assam minister Himanta Biswa Sarma said that more MLAs are likely to join them.
Leaders from these parties met Governor yesterday evening and staked claim to form the next government. NPP has won 19 seats in assembly polls. A former minister of Meghalaya, Conrad Sangma is the son of former Lok Sabha Speaker PA Sangma. He is currently the Lok Sabha member from Tura constituency. He said development of the state will be his main priority.

Meanwhile, Mukul Sangma has resigned as Chief Minister of Meghalaya. A Raj Bhavan official said, the governor has accepted his resignation and asked Mr Sangma to continue as CM till a new government is formed.
