Nationalist Democratic Progressive Party (NDPP) leader Neiphiu Rio and senior BJP leader Hemanta Biswa Sarma today met in Kohima and discussed the formation of new government.
The BJP has officially announced that they are with NDPP in Nagaland and will go ahead with government formation in the state. Mr Biswa Sarma who is the leader of the North East Democratic Alliance today clarified that the BJP has severed ties with Naga People's Front (NPF) as it already has an alliance with NDPP to provide a stable Government in the state.
Addressing the media at Kohima this evening after a meeting with NDPP leaders, Mr. Biswa Sarma informed that Union Minister and BJP Observer for Nagaland J P Nadda arrived in Dimapur today to facilitate the election of the Legislature party leader of NDPP-BJP Alliance.
He expressed hope that Nagaland Governor will invite NDPP-BJP Alliance to form the next Government.
Meanwhile, the political equation has changed in the state as the Tening Assembly Constituency seat was yesterday awarded to the NDPP. With this, the total strength of NDPP has gone up to 18.
BJP has 12 MLAs, NPF - 26, JD (U) -1, Independent -1 and NPP has two. In the 60-member Nagaland assembly, 31 lawmakers are needed to form the government.
Two lawmakers -an Independent and one from the JD(U) have already pledged support to the BJP-NDPP alliance.
Our correspondent reports that the swearing-in ceremony of the new government will be held on Thursday. Prime Minister Narendra Modi is expected to attend the ceremony.
