The second edition of The Hindu-IOCL Cricket tournament for the SERVO Mechanics Cup concluded on Sunday, with the SERVO Challengers team emerging winners by scoring 105 runs without losing a single wicket in 7.4 overs.
They chased the target of 103 runs scored by the runners, the SERVO Bull team. The runners up team scored 103 runs in 10 overs losing 5 wickets. Vinod of SERVO Challengers was the man of the match with a score of 60 runs in 30 balls. The match was held at the PSG Institute of Management cricket pitch.
The SERVO Mechanic Cup Powered by The Hindu is conducted for the mechanics of two-wheelers, four-wheelers and heavy vehicles.
Prizes were distributed by the General Manager of IOCL (Lubricants) R. Udhayakumar. Prizes worth over ₹1.5 lakh were given away to winners.
The tennis ball tournament, sponsored by the Indian Oil Corporation Limited (IOCL) and powered by The Hindu, received 520 entries and was later cut down to size. They went through a tough grind at the Sri Ramakrishna Cricket Trust nets at the Sri Ramakrishna Arts and Science College.
The selectors comprised Vikram Senthil, Senthil Prabhu, R. Venkatesh and Shyam Sundar from the Coimbatore District Cricket Association (CDCA). Karthikeyan played the role of a co-ordinator for the trials, which lasted for over seven hours on February 24. They picked 16 teams of 12 players each for the March showdown. The preliminary rounds were played five overs a side and on a round robin format.
The semifinals featured an additional three overs a side followed by a 10-over-a-side grand final.
