The State Government of Lagos has released a calendar of more than 70 state sponsored arts and culture programs scheduled for this year in its bid to get more visibility and prominence for tourism related art programs.
The novel initiative, as per a release signed by the Commissioner for Tourism, Arts and Culture of the State, Mr. Steve Ayorinde, has been shaped to frontload public and privately driven event related to arts, culture and entertainment that will create positive effect related to tourism and the image of Lagos as an arts-friendly state.
“This initiative is in fulfilment of the State Government’s promise to announce a yearly calendar of events to guide programming, tourists and visitors’ decisions,” he stated.
As per Ayorinde, the Governor of Lagos State, Mr. Akinwunmi Ambode, initiated the year with his participation at Ali Baba’s January 1st Comedy concert at Eko Hotel. The concept of creating an events calendar for state-sponsored and state-endorsed programs is to turn event planning, tour bookings and business decisions easier for tour operators and the general public. The calendar is portion of innovative intervention of the state’s arts, entertainment and leisure benefits intrinsic to Lagos that emphasizes the attractiveness of the state to the domestic visitors; business travelers and stop-over passers-by.
To quote the commissioner, “the state is forging ahead in expanding the consumption of its tourism products by improving access to tourism information and creating an events guide for the media and tour bloggers.”
