Days after the teaser of the Rajinikanth-starrer Kaala was leaked online, a rough cut of the teaser of the superstar’s much-anticipated magnum opus 2.0 was uploaded on the Internet on Sunday morning.
Sources said the video, which was over a minute long and appeared to have been recorded using a mobile phone, may have been shot during a private event abroad.
While the producers have, in the past, released clips on the making of the film, no announcement has been made thus far on the release of a teaser or a trailer.
The film sees Rajinikanth reprising his roles as Vaseegaran, the scientist, and ‘Chitti’, the robot, from Enthiran, and also features Akshay Kumar and Amy Jackson in leading roles.
Following the leak, film-maker and Rajinikanth’s daughter Soundarya Rajinikanth took to Twitter to call on the people to stop misusing digital platforms. “Leaking content online before the official release should not be tolerated or encouraged. This is a heartless act ignoring hard work, efforts and sentiments of the makers for few seconds of excitement !!!” she tweeted.
More graphic effects
While the makers did not officially react to the leak, a featurette about the VFX in 2.0 was released on Sunday night. The video, which details the extensive work which has gone into the visual effects for the film, has director Shankar stating that the movie will have double the amount of effects that Enthiran had.
The release of 2.0, which was scheduled for April, was postponed by the makers as they needed more time to work on the extensive visual effects in the film. With a budget of ₹400 crore and produced by Lyca Productions, 2.0 has been touted as one of the most expensive Indian films ever, and its visual effects are being carried out by Stan Winston Studios in Hollywood.
