On Sunday, Jaipur women took to the city’s streets in decorated cars to participate in the annual all-women car rally. Dressed in colourful attire, the women and their cars sent out a loud message: the endeavour to make Jaipur a cleaner and greener city. The rally began from the south gate of Albert Hall with over 100 participants from different walks of life.

Roopa Chopra Mehta,organiser,said,“We organise this rally in the city marking International Women’s Day with a new theme every year. Through today’s rally, we want to convey the message of making Jaipur a cleaner and greener city.” While most of the participants were spotted in green clothes,some of the women chose white to support the cause of universal peace. Shipra, leader of the group donning white T-shirts, said, “We are all for world peace and wanted to convey the message through our attire. We want to highlight the importance of peace for a better and a peaceful world.”

Women’s car rally inspires Jaipurites to go green
A group of youngsters dressed in green trousers with white T-shirts were seen in a car that had a painting of the Hawa Mahal and bore slogans urging people to save the environment. Nandini,leader of the team,said,“It took us almost a week to paint the Hawa Mahal on our car. We also wrote slogans to encourage people to save the environment. We are not thinking about winning any prize, but if people read our slogans and get inspired to save the environment, we will think that our efforts have paid off.” The participants covered almost 80km distance, passing through major areas of the city, including JLN Road. The rally, organised by
NGO Alankrita, concluded in front of a resort on Sirsi Road. The conclusion of the event saw winners in different categories – best decorated car, best slogan and best active participation, among others – being felicitated.
