Indian Oil commissions multi-product pipelines in Chennai
The relaid pipelines travel for about 10 km, transport various products from CPCL Refinery to Indian Oil's Tondiarpet, Korukkupet and Foreshore terminals.
CHENNAI: State-owned Indian Oil commissioned three multi-product pipelines here today at a cost of Rs 98 crore as part of its move towards better management of pipeline network and adhering to safety norms.

This involves re-routing of dock lines between IOCL's Foreshore and Korukkupet terminals for better handling of the white, black and lube oil pipelines, which were relaid along the railway corridor between Tondiarpet Railway station and Royapuram.

After formally dedicating the pipelines to the nation, Indian Oil Director (Pipelines), Anish Aggarwal said that commissioning of these pipelines was a milestone as it would feed the Chennai market with surplus products. The advanced technological involvement would ensure high-end efficiency and safety to these lines, he said.

A plaque marking the occasion was also unveiled by Aggarwal in the presence of Indian Oil Group Company, Chennai Petroleum Corporation Ltd, Managing Director, S N Pandey and senior company officials.

Chennai Petroleum Corporation Ltd through its refinery, refines and pumps out various products through pipelines to Tiruchirapalli, Madurai, Salem and to Bengaluru.

The relaid pipelines travel for about 10 km, transport various products from CPCL Refinery to IndianOil's Tondiarpet, Korukkupet and Foreshore terminals.

The pipelines are connected to the Petroleum oil jetty of Chennai Port for loading products.

The new pipelines are laid with optical fibre cable to transfer data and can also identify leak detection.

The pipelines are equipped with bi-directional piggable pipeline to take up cleaning activities and they were relaid five feet below ground level as per international standards, the statement added.
