Governor Banwarilal Purohit, who is also the Chancellor of State Universities, has asked the Vice-Chancellors to follow transparency in faculty appointments.
At a day-long review meeting of Vice-Chancellors and Registrars of State universities on Saturday, the Governor gave several suggestions to the senior academics in the State.
The Governor said he was aware of all the issues in various universities and gave suggestions to the top officials on many issues, including research, finance, curriculum, co-ordination and transparency in tender process and appointments.
Affiliated colleges
“When the V-Cs spoke of the research work on their campuses, the Governor told them that as universities, they had to take into account the affiliated colleges too,” an official said.
“He told the V-Cs and Registrars to work together. In a lighter vein, he said the V-C and the Registrar should not fight but work together," the official added.
The Governor wanted the universities to focus on improving their NAAC score and also advised them to be honest in providing information to the Ministry of Human Resource Development for the upcoming NIRF ranking exercise. He was for improving the curriculum to improve the employability of students, a V-C said. Out of the three T.N. universities in Category 1, only one was a State University (the other two are private), Mr. Purohit pointed out.
Tender process
Importantly, the Governor asked the university administrators to maintain transparency and adhere to the tender process. When it came to appointments, the Governor insisted on transparency and integrity to ensure candidates of merit got jobs in universities, sources said. Additional Secretary to the Governor R. Rajagopal and Higher Education Secretary Sunil Paliwal were present at the meeting.
