news three at six. i'm amanda quintana. women and men across the world are getting ready to celebrate international women's day. at the u-w campus today - hundreds of people came together ahead of the gender- inclusive holiday. news 3's dave caulfield shows us how making connections here at home can fight inequality across the globe. through song... ceremony... and personal stories... hundreds of women came together on the u-w campus saturday in support of gender equality, diversity, and international women's day ((("gather to appreciate cultures from different corners of the world, and also to raise awareness to issues that we need action on."))) the theme of this year's event is press for progress the gathering not only provided a place for healing through culture and community... but also examined the role of voice, media, and people speaking up in the fight for women's rights across the globe. ((("there's a circle where everyone is welcome, we are stronger together, and the campus of u-w madison wants to be there to support that circle."))) the day has a slightly different energy this year--with increased awareness for women's issues due to the hashtag me too and time's up movements. songolo says she sees more urgency and accountability in the world today--- and hopes the sisterhood that is created on campus spreads throughout the country..and the world.
