Naidu to address Panjab varsity convocation today

Vice-President M Venkaiah Naidu arrived in Chandigarh on Saturday, a day before he will address the 67th Convocation of Panjab University (PU) on Sunday “Panjab University, Chandigarh is all set to host the 67th Annual Convocation scheduled for March 4. Chancellor and Vice President M. Venkaiah Naidu will confer Honoris Causa degrees and awards on eminent icons,” a spokesperson of PU said.

Those being awarded the degrees include Prof. M.M. Sharma (D.Sc.), Prof. Tejinder Singh Virdee (D.Sc.) and former Chief Justice Jagdish Singh Khehar (LLD).

PU will also confer the Khel Rattan Award to legendary athlete Milkha Singh, Gian Rattan Award to eminent art historian, Prof BN Goswamy and Udyog Rattan Award to leading industrialist, Sunil Kant Munjal.

Governor and Administrator of Chandigarh VP Singh Badnore and Governor of Haryana Kaptan Singh Solanki will also be present on the occasion.

Full dress rehearsal of the convocation was carried out on Saturday in the university Gymnasium Hall.

There are total 809 number of students to be bestowed with degrees, the majority of them being girls.

Students from three countries, Afghanistan, Iran and Thailand, and 16 different States in the country will get degrees and awards at the convocation, the spokesperson added.
