The East Coast Railway (ECoR) has introduced mobile wheelchair foldable ramps at the Bhubaneswar, Sambalpur and Visakhapatnam railway stations in its jurisdiction on a pilot basis for the benefit of the physically-challenged passengers to board trains in a hassle-free manner.
The foldable ramp is designed and fabricated by ECoR and can be easily carried. This facility is a free facility for the passengers that can be availed by showing any of their identity cards. The beneficiaries will have to inform the wheel chair section near Chief Ticket Inspector (CTI) Office at the stations.
Earlier, Persons with Disabilities (PWDs) were facing difficulties in boarding the train coach due to gap between the train and platform or they were taking help of their relatives or of co-passengers to reach their berths.
After reviewing the success of this pilot project, ECoR is planning to provide this facility at other important stations in its jurisdiction, shortly. The response received at the three stations has been quite positive and encouraging.
