Dakshina Kannada has 16,66,814 voters as per latest revision

Stating that Dakshina Kannada has 16,66,814 voters as per the latest revision of the voters’ list till last month, Additional Deputy Commissioner Kumar said here on Sunday that those who have not enrolled in the list can still submit applications in the prescribed form.

Briefing reporters after handing over the revised voters’ list to political parties, he said that 22,513 voters were added to the list during the enrolment campaign and special summary revision from December 2017 to February 12, 2018. The final voters’ list was published on February 28.

He said that enrolment in the voters’ list is a continuous process. But those who want to apply for deleting the names can apply till the Election Commission announces the calendar of events for the coming Assembly elections. Those who want to transfer the names within the same Assembly segment can also apply till then. But transfer of names from one Assembly segment to another Assembly constituency is not allowed now. Those in Mangaluru City South constituency can submit the applications for the purpose concerned at the Mangaluru City Corporation office. Others in Mangaluru and Mangaluru City North can submit them in the office of Mangaluru tahsildar.

Mr. Kumar said that 7,310 electronic voting machines (EVMs) have arrived for the election against the requirement for 7,805 machines and 16 engineers of Bharat Electronics Ltd. (BEL) were checking them for faults, if any. Their auditing would go on for 10 more days.

The VVPAT (voter verifiable paper audit trial) machines would be used in this election to enable voters to ascertain whether their vote has gone to the intended candidate. The district has received 2,330 VVPAT units against the requirement of 2,506 units.

He said that there will be one facilitator per election booth especially to attend to physically-challenged persons during voting. There are 9,289 physically-challenged voters in the district.

Village-level electoral teams have been formed to attend to all election related issues in the booth level.

The district would have 1,790 polling booths. The commission has been requested to re-arrange the locations of 37 booths on the grounds that either the buildings housing them are old or voters would have to walk more than 2 km to exercise their franchise.

Website for voters

Dakshina Kannada administration has created a website www.deodk.com to enable voters to check their names and get all information related to the coming elections in the district.

It has also opened a round the clock control room on the second floor in the office of Deputy Commissioner. The toll free number is 1800-425-2099 and 0824-2420002. Complaints and suggestions can be given by calling these numbers.
