Ponda:
Bondla zoo authorities finally heaved a sigh of relief after the 8-month-old cub of a leopard returned to the zoo enclosure on Sunday.
Some unidentified miscreants had released three leopards and two cubs early on Saturday. Three leopards and a cub returned to their respective enclosures on the same day, but one cub was not ready to return.
However, after finding out that his mother and sibling had returned to their shelter, the cub also returned on Sunday, zoo manager Gautam Salelkar told TOI.
Ponda police registered a FIR against unknown miscreants for trespassing into the zoo area and releasing the wild animals. Police suspect that zoo staffers could be involved in the incident as without their abettment, no one could have entered into the enclosures of the wild animals and released them.
Continuing its investigation, Ponda police has also summoned the zoo manager, Salelkar, for recording his statement at the Ponda police station on Monday.
The incident has raised concern over the lack of security which could pose danger to people residing nearby.
