The newly elected members of parliament in Nepal took oath today. President Bidya Devi Bhandari administered oath to the senior most member of House of Representatives Mahantha Thakur and senior most member of National Assembly Tara Devi Bhatta at Kathmandu this afternoon. Vice President Nanda Bahadur Pun, Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli and other dignitaries were also present on the occasion. Later in the evening, Mr. Thakur administered oath to other members of House of Representatives and Ms. Bhatta to members of National Assembly, the upper house of the parliament. The historic elections for House of Representatives, the lower house of the parliament were held on November 26 and December 7 last year. While polling for National Assembly was conducted on 7th of last month. The Left Alliance of CPN (UML) and CPN (Maoist Center) had registered massive victory in the elections. In 275 member House of Representatives, Left Alliance secured almost two third majority by winning 174 seats. It had also won 39 seats out of 59 in National Assembly. Meanwhile, President Bhandari has convened first meeting of both the houses of parliament tomorrow.
