Deb front runner for CM post

| | New Delhi

Tripura State BJP president Biplab Kumar Deb is likely to be picked up for the post of Chief Minister even as the BJP on Saturday appointed party observers for Tripura, Meghalaya and Nagaland.

Union Ministers Nitin Gadkari and Jual Oram would go to Tripura, BJP general secretary Arun Singh and Union Minister JP Nadda would visit  Nagaland  and Union Minister Kiren Rijiju and  Alphons Joseph Kannanthanam would oversee Meghalaya.

The decision was taken at BJP's Parliamentary Party, the  top decision making body of the party, chaired by party president Amit Shah with  Prime Minister Narendra Modi in attendance. The BJP brass also discussed the formation of Government in Triprua and the game plan for Nagaland and Meghalaya.

After the poll results, Deb said he is ready to take on the mantle of Chief Minister, but a decision on it would be taken by the party's Parliamentary Board. “I am ready to take the responsibility. I will not run away from taking the responsibility,” he told reporters at Agartala when asked if he would accept the task of chief ministership.

Deb, a gym instructor-turned-politician, thanked the people of Tripura for their overwhelming support and credited Modi and Amit Shah with the party's showing. “I have already been given a bigger responsibility, the party's state presidentship, which I have been fulfilling to the best of my ability,” he said.
