The BJP on Saturday targeted Congress president Rahul Gandhi for flying off to Italy on the day Assembly election results were being declared. On Thursday, Rahul Gandhi tweeted saying that he is travelling to Italy to pay his ailing grandmother a visit.

"My Nani is 93. She's the kindest soul ever. This Holi weekend, I'm going to surprise her! I can't wait to give her a hug. #HappyHoli to all of you. Have a joyful celebration," Rahul had wrote on Twitter.


Union minister Giriraj Singh was quick to take a dig at Rahul Gandhi by calling him a "non-serious leader".

"Koi neta apne karyakartaon ko chhodd ke aise samay mein nahi bhaagta. Non-serious adhyakh hain Rahul Gandhi (No leader can leave his party workers in difficult times. Rahul Gandhi is a non-serious leader)," Singh had said.

"He is not a natural leader, but a product of circumstances, he is born to a queen," he added.

Later, when BJP president Amit Shah was done thanking voters during his press conference following the results of the Assembly elections in the Northeast, he also took a potshot at Rahul Gandhi by saying that an election is being held in Italy.

"I got a WhatsApp message saying there's an election in Italy," Shah told reporters.

Right after Rahul's tweet, BJP's Meenakshi Lekhi had taken a jibe at him by saying that Karti Chidambaram's arrest made him remember his nani.

"Very nice gesture, Karti's arrest ne nani yaad dila di," Lekhi had tweeted.


Now, Twitter is having a field day with the shots that were fired at Rahul Gandhi on his Italy visit and Congress' performance in the Northeast Assembly elections by making #BhagodaRahul a trending topic on the social networking site.
