DEHRADUN: As
Central Board of Secondary Education is all set to conduct class X and class XII board examinations from today, students across the city are an anxious lot. About 2,58,788 students from 1,465 CBSE-affiliated schools will take the tests which will begin from Monday in across 356 examination centres in Uttarakhand and West Uttar Pradesh covered under CBSE’s Dehradun region. Thirty seven of these centres are located in the state capital. Out of the total students appearing for the board exams, 1,19,984 are in class XII while the rest are in class X.
Sources say that compared to last year, this year helpline numbers have received about 50% more calls from both students and parents regarding anxiety before the exams. Dr Sona Kaushal, a city-based neuro-psychologist who is also a CBSE-designated counsellor told TOI, “The number of calls that I receive have significantly increased in the last one week. I’m taking close to 40 calls every day, out of which 40% are made by worried parents. They want to know how they might help their children deal with stress during this time. Parents should always make sure that their children are getting sufficient sleep and rest before the day of the exam. Apart from being their emotional support, they should also ensure that their child has eaten something light before leaving to take the exam. Last minute instructions should also be avoided.”
“The calls that I get from students mostly revolve around anxiety and stress due to the exams. They fear that in spite of multiple revisions, they will forget everything when they have to take the tests. I advise them to be positive and confident that they will retain whatever they have learnt during the exams. They should remember that they have appeared for many exams earlier and there is no need to be stressed about this one.”
Meanwhile, out of the 356 examination centres, 219 are in West UP while the rest are in Uttarakhand.
Ranveer Singh, CBSE regional officer, Dehradun region, said, “All preparations have been made and everything is under control.”
