CHINESE DATING WITH THE PARENTS
★★
7pm, SBS Viceland
What really comes across in this If You Are The One spin-off, is how kind and sweet these young Chinese people are. With their parents getting in on the matchmaking via a lighthearted Q&A conducted by transgender actress Jin Xing, they pay homage to tradition while addressing the generation gap. Ignore the subtitles to simulate an international TV-watching experience.
DEATH IN PARADISE
★★★
7.30pm, ABC
This is the most important episode of this breezy murder mysteries series since Ben Miller passed the baton to Kris Marshall as the incoming Saint Marie inspector. Yes, it's time for another regeneration of the fish-out-of-water island cop. In keeping with the tradition of the role being played by a comedian, Irish comic Ardal O'Hanlon (Father Ted) is recruited while the team is on a case in London.
COMEDY NEXT GEN
★★
9.20pm, ABC Comedy
These prized stand-up spots could really drop the pre and post-show interviews in which the comedians deliver a reality-style run-down to camera of their insecurities. David Quirk, the Melbourne comic who takes the stage tonight with an inventive routine, could really do without his private doubts aired. His is long-form yarn spinning that tests the patience yet rewards stayers.
