Three people, including two residents of Jammu & Kashmir, were arrested for allegedly smuggling charas worth ₹31 lakh, police said on Saturday.
Additional CP (Crime), Thane Police, Makarand Ranade said the Anti-Extortion Cell received a tip-off about the trio, based on which they intercepted and apprehended the accused in Kausa, Mumbra on Wednesday. Police said 15.7 kg of charas and ₹1 lakh in cash were found in their possession. They were produced in a local court, whic remanded them in police custody till March 5.
The accused have been identified as Hasan Khan alias Moosa (38) and J&K residents Abdul Samad Abdul Raza Gujali (55) of Sambal, Bandipora and Mohammad Makbul Muktar Bhat (55) of Safapora, Ganderbal. DCP Abishek Trimukhi said they have been charged under relevant sections of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act 1985. The case has been registered at Mumbra police station, he said. The operation to apprehend the trio was led by Senior PI Pradeep Sharma.
