Police constable posted at late Tamil Nadu CM Jayalalithaa's memorial shoots self dead

CHENNAI: A 23-year-old police Constable posted at the late Tamil Nadu Chief Minister J Jayalalithaa's memorial shot himself dead on the early hours of Sunday. 

The constable identified as Arun Raj (25) hails from Madurai and said to have joined the state police force in 2013. 

His duty timings at the memorial are from 2 am to 6 am. Police sources said three other personnel were with him when he suddenly shot himself around 5 am using his rifle.

He was taken to the Royapettah government hospital, where he was declared brought dead.

The reason for his suicide is not clear yet. 

However, a cop suggested family issues behind the suicide. A case has been registered. Also autopsy arrangements are underway. Arun's parents are expected to arrive by afternoon.
