Meghalaya Chief Minister Mukul Sangma submitted his resignation to Governor Ganga Prasad in Shillong on Sunday.

Sangma, however, said that he will come back with letters of support from like-minded people.

Post declaration of election results last Saturday, Mukul Sangma had said "It is a fractured mandate. Now it is a question of looking at people who would like to look at common agenda acceptable to the state's people and come together."

Meghalaya voters returned a hung Assembly with the ruling Congress emerging as the single largest party with 21 seats in the 60-member house, 10 short of the 31 seats needed to retain power in the Northeastern state.

The National People's Party (NPP), an ally of the BJP at the Centre, Rajasthan and Manipur, emerged as the second largest party with 19 seats and is likely to join hands with the non-Congress parties.

On being asked who the next chief minister of Meghalaya will be, NPP chief Conrad Sangma said "it will be revealed in the next half an hour".

NPP is shortly going on address a press brief in Shillong where it will reveal the party's future plans.
