With the Secondary School Certificate (SSC) examinations scheduled to be held from March 15, the district administration has been making all efforts to improve its pass percentage.
In this regard, Karimnagar Urban MEO G. Mohan has come up with an initiative called ‘Prerana’, under which intensive coaching would be given to students on how to prepare for the examination by resource persons and teachers.
As part of the programme, a two-day rigorous coaching would be given to all 629 SSC students of government schools in Karimnagar urban at Trinity Junior College. The coaching would begin at 9 a.m. and go on till 5.30 p.m. Based on the performance of students in pre-final examinations conducted recently, they have been formed into three groups—one with students who secured 70% and above; between 40% and 70% and those who secured less than 40%, including those who failed in the pre-final exams.
District Collector Sarfaraz Ahmad, who was impressed by the initiative, has sanctioned ₹1 lakh under Crucial Balance Fund (CBF) to meet the expenses of conducting the coaching classes, that includes providing nutritious food to students.
He has also instructed the MEO to conduct similar classes for the students of government schools in Karimnagar rural on March 6 and 7.
On Saturday, Karimnagar legislator G. Kamalakar and Mayor S. Ravinder Singh visited the special intensive coaching classes and announced financial assistance of ₹50,000 to provide snacks to students.
Talking to The Hindu, Mr. Mohan said the idea was to train students to excel in the SSC examinations. “We are preparing those who scored 70% and above in the pre-final exams to secure 10 GPA in the main exam, while we are working to ensure that the average students secure more than 70%,” he said. “We are making all efforts to ensure that no student fails in the main examination with a special focus on intensive coaching for below average students,” he added.
The MEO said students were being given old question papers to read and answer them in a way that would fetch them good marks.
