Political activities in full swing for formation of new govts in Tripura, Nagaland, Meghalaya

sk

Political activities gain momentum for formation of new governments in Tripura, Nagaland and Meghalaya.

After a historic victory in Tripura Assembly elections, BJP is all set to form a new government in the state.

The party has appointed Union Ministers - Nitin Gadkari and Jual Oram - as Central Observers to help facilitate the election of BJP legislature party leader in the state.

Meanwhile, Chief Minister Manik Sarkar on Sunday tendered his resignation to the Governor Tathagata Roy.

AIR correspondent reports, BJP Sources said the central ministers will come either today or tomorrow in Tripura to finalize the name of Chief Minister of new BJP government.

During their visit, they will meet elected members and core committee members. After that meeting, they will submit their report to the BJP parliamentary board.

Also, party sources said there are few candidates which are in the frontline for the Chief Ministerial post.

This include, BJP State President Biplab Kumar Deb, Kumar Jishnu Debbarman, Dr. Atul Debbarma and Ramapada Jamatia. Also, the oath taking ceremony of the new Ministry is most likely to be finished by 10th March.

AIR correspondent reports, in Nagaland, BJP and its ally Nationalist Democratic Progressive Party (NDPP) on Sunday exuded confidence that they would be able to form a stable government in the state as the numbers are on their side.

BJP general secretary Ram Madhav said, the pre-poll allies have got a "near simple majority" in the 60-member assembly.

He said, the NDPP-BJP alliance has secured near simple majority in Nagaland and it has the support of one independent and one JD(U) MLAs which takes us to 32 seats.

Mr Madhav said, the NDPP-BJP alliance will stake claim to form the government in next few days.

NDPP leader and three-time chief minister Neiphiu Rio also said that the alliance is in a comfortable position to form the government.

In Meghalaya, newly elected MLA AL Hek has been declared leader of BJP Legislature Party. Union Minister Kiren Rijiju disclosed this in a tweet.

Mr Rijiju said a non-Congress government will be formed in the state. He said, since BJP does not have the requisite numbers, the party will extend support to Coalition government which will be formed in Meghalaya.

Meghalaya Chief Minister and Congress leader Mukul Sangma met Governor Ganga Prasad at Raj Bhawan in Shillong this afternoon.
