Just a few films old, Urvashi Rautela has already got the attention of the film industry and the audience, thanks to her good looks and sensual dancing. In her upcoming film Hate Story 4, Urvashi’s bold scenes with co-stars Karan Wahi and Vivan Bhatena are creating a lot of waves. But while promoting the film, the actress maintains that Hate Story 4 isn’t just about bold scenes. “This film is high on content. Once you watch it, you will realise that the film has a positive message. In fact, it has given me a lot of acting scope,” she says.
But did the scenes make her uncomfortable or conscious? “No, because everything was already written in the contract and I was clear about how the scenes will be shot,” she answers.
Directed by Vishal Pandya and produced by T-series, the film will release on March 9. The film is the fourth instalment in the Hate Story franchise. And Urvashi promises that the film will not only be loved by Hate Story audiences but also those who love dancing. “Though I haven’t watched the previous films, I do know that it’s one of the most loved franchise with a huge box-office collection. I have tried several new choreographies in the songs. In Aashiq Banaya Apne, for the first time, we have tried heel choreography which no actress has attempted before,” she says.
And was it a pressure recreating the iconic dance numbers? “I have already danced to Mr Amitabh Bachchan’s Sara Zamana Haseeno Ka Deewana in Kaabil. I was nervous back then but when Mr Bachchan told me that he loved my dance number, I was relaxed and happy. The number turned out good because of Ahmed Khan. This time, I was ready. Though there was pressure, we did a very good job,” she says.
The actress says that when she had heard the script, she didn’t know it was for Hate Story 4. “But I loved my character of Taasha. The script and story attracted me. Also, the character was very interesting and completely different. This is the first female-centric film of my career. I always wanted to do a female-centric film but had not expected it to happen so early in my career. Usually, actresses who have already worked for many years and in numerous films, get such offers,” says Urvashi, adding, “Taasha is completely tailormade for me. But I am nervous because it’s too early for me.”
To understand Taasha better, Urvashi says that she has written the back story of the character. “There is one similarity between me and Taasha: both are super models. I was one before I joined the film industry. It helped me understand the character,” she adds. The actress is happy that she got to do her own stunts in the film.
Too early in her career, Urvashi is being termed as the sexy girl of Bollywood. But the actress isn’t bothered and says that the image change is happening organically. “After my first film Singh Saab The Great, I was perceived to be this deglam actress. But after Great Grand Masti and Sanam Re, people started thinking that I could play glamorous roles. In fact, in Sanam Re, I was offered the village girl character but I opted to play the socialite because I wanted to look glamorous. Having said that, I feel satisfied with the kind of films being offered to me because they are different,” she says.
She adds that her focus is on doing quality work rather than quantity. “I have refused a film with Mr Bachchan and some big banner projects because I want to play roles which have something to offer and along with that the script is also important,” she says before signing off.
