BJP has made significant gains in the assembly election results in three northeastern states—Meghalaya, Nagaland and Tripura—where the counting of votes began at 8am on Saturday amid tight security. In the Left Front bastion of Tripura, the BJP and its ally Indigenous People’s Front of Tripura (IPFT) surged ahead of CPM-led Left alliance, while the saffron party and its ally Nationalist Democratic Progressive Party (NDPP) were leading in 21 seats in Nagaland. The ruling Naga People’s Front (NPF) is ahead in 16 seats. In Meghalaya, the ruling Congress has won two seats and was leading in 19 followed by the National People’s Party (NPP) in 14.
