PUNE: The Kondhwa police on Thursday arrested a 22-year-old man for molesting a 16-year-old girl as she was returning home after appearing for the first SSC examination.
The two know each other since childhood, as they stayed in the same locality.
The girl is a student of Std X, while the youth had only studied till Std VII and now works part time with a city-based private engineering company.
Kondhwa police’s assistant inspector Devidas Kungar said, “The suspect had later shifted to Katraj but continued to develop feelings for the girl. She appeared for the SSC examination and was on her way home when the youth accosted her.”
The officer added that the youth caught hold of the girl’s hand and molested her. “He also forced her to accompany him, but the girl refused,” Kungar said.
The officer further said, “After she told her brother what had happened, he told the suspect to stay away from her. Minutes after the brother and sister reached home, the suspect followed them and abused the brother. He also beat him up. The youth threatened him with dire consequences and fled the area.”
A Kondhwa police beat marshal arrested the suspect. An FIR has been registered under relevant sections of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) and the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act.
