Mahindra have expanded its operations to the States and the first to be launched is the Roxor off-road SUV. It’s a barebones short wheelbase off-roader that should be appealing to many.
When you see the Mahindra Roxor for the first time, you get a whiff of the Mahindra Thar, and that isn’t a surprise as both vehicles share the same chassis and engine. The Mahindra Roxor produces a modest 64 bhp from its 2.5-litre four-cylinder diesel engine for a top speed of 45 miles per hour. There is four wheel drive as standard and the suspension duties are served by leaf springs.
Mahindra is looking to tap into the Jeep nostalgia with the Willy’s Jeep like looks, and the lightweight short wheelbase should add to the fun off-road. The Roxor is a bare-bones SUV with no doors or a roof! Even the dashboard is just a dial with a white face, and headlight and horn switches.
There are also two cup holders as well. The Roxor also gets a whole bunch of customisable accessories though like light bars, off-road wheels and heavy duty winches which should help in pulling loads.
The Roxor will be sold through Mahindra’s powersports dealerships and will be assembled at the company’s Michigan plant. Official launch will be in a few months.
