Judge calls for awareness against child trafficking

‘They are being seduced on the pretext of offering gifts’

District Legal Services Authority secretary and senior civil judge S. Damodara Rao on Saturday said called for creating awareness to eradicate the menace of child trafficking.

He was addressing a meeting organised by Gram Swaraj Seva Samiti and Plan India on the occasion of Prevention of World Sexual Exploitation Day. Mr. Rao said children were being seduced on the pretext of offering gifts and chocolates dragged to sex trade and described the trend as very unfortunate.

Forum of Legal Professionals president Kuppili Muralidhar said the Constitution of India banned exploitation under Article 23 and enjoined upon State under Article 39 to take effective steps to check exploitation under the Immoral Trafficking Act, 1956.

Legal volunteer Padmaja and cartoonist Hari and large number of children participated.
