The Jammu-Srinagar national highway, the only surface link connecting Kashmir with the rest of the country, was partially re-opened for traffic last evening. The highway was closed due to landslides triggered by rain at various places in Ramban district. The MeT department has predicted rain at many places, including Srinagar, today and snowfall at higher reaches.
There will be one-way traffic movement from Srinagar towards Jammu today. The travellers have been advised to confirm the status of the road from Traffic Control Units or designated traffic officials before starting their journey.
Meanwhile, over 1300 vehicles including passenger vehicles, trucks, oil & gas tankers reached Srinagar late yesterday evening after remaining stranded for several hours at various places on Highway due to landslides and shooting stones in Ramban district along the highway.
State Disaster Management Authority has appealed the people living in avalanche prone areas and higher reaches to take precautionary measures.
