Deplores political killings, says UDF firm on CBI probe into murder of Shuhaib

The CPI(M) has become a party moulding murderers and the State government is in cahoots with killers, allowing them to roam freely, Leader of the Opposition Ramesh Chennithala said here on Saturday.

Inaugurating the ‘Rappakal Samaram’ demanding a CBI probe into the murder of Youth Congress worker S.P. Shuhaib at Edayannur in Kannur, he deplored the political killings in the State pointing out 23 such incidents since the LDF government came to power.

To continue stir

“The CPI(M) is trying to protect the real murderers. We don’t want the ones who carried out the killing, but those who instigated it,” he said. “We will continue the agitation till a CBI probe is ordered into the murder of Shuhaib,” he said.

Mr. Chennithala also demanded a judicial probe into the lynching of Madhu, a tribal youth in Attappady, and the arrest of real culprits in the Safeer murder case.

KPCC president M.M. Hassan inaugurated the protest in Kayamkulam while former Chief Minister Oommen Chandy and UDF convener P.P. Thankachan inaugurated the protest at Puthuppally and Angamaly respectively.

Anti-people policies

The 24-hour stir also is in protest against the anti-people policies of the State and Central governments.

Mr. Chennithala alleged that the governments had destroyed the Employment Assurance Scheme implemented by the previous UPA government denying the poor their rightful benefits.

Modi criticised

“The Modi government, keen on implementing the RSS agenda, is protecting fraudsters and those involved in financial crimes.”

“An NRI ended his life following harassment by local politicians demanding bribe. In Kollam, cashew workers are in dire straits as the government has failed to provide them job. The Rappakal Samaram is only an intimation. In the coming days we will go ahead with more intense modes of protest,” he said.

While the day-and-night stir organised in the other constituencies will conclude on March 4, the protest postponed in Thiruvananthapuram Central, Nemom, and Vattiyurkavu due to Attukal Pongala will be held on March 5 and 6.
