Gunshots Reportedly Fired Near White House, Says U.S. Secret Service

UPDATE 3:03 PM EST- The man who shot himself outside of the White House has been pronounced dead, according to police. No further information about the man has been disclosed.

"Update: Adult male has been declared deceased. We are working to notify next of kin. No further updates," the DC police department tweeted.

The U.S. Secret Service released a statement about the man, saying they are withholding the name until they notify his family.

A man is currently being treated for gunshot wounds after shooting himself outside of the White House, according to the U.S. Secret Service. 

"BREAKING: Secret Service personnel are responding to reports of a person who allegedly suffered a self-inflicted gunshot wound along the north fence line of @WhiteHouse," the agency tweeted.

President Donald Trump is in Florida on Saturday and not in the White House at the time of the shooting. He has been briefed on the situation, according to reports. There have been no further injuries, according to the U.S. Secret Service.

Police have roped off the area near the White House, and Pennsylvania Avenue has been shut down to pedestrians. Reporters at the White House were told to shelter in place during the ongoing incident.

Trump is supposed to return to Washington D.C. from his Mar-a-Lago resort on Saturday evening for the Gridiron Dinner. This is the second incident in over a week that the White House has experienced. On February 23, a woman intentionally slammed her car into the White House barrier. Authorities said there was no real threat to the White House.
