BJP has made significant gains in the assembly election results in Tripura and Nagaland, however in Meghalaya, it managed to win just two seats. The counting of votes in the three northeastern states had begun at 8 am on Saturday amid tight security. In the Left Front bastion of Tripura, the BJP and its ally Indigenous People’s Front of Tripura (IPFT) won a total of 43 seats against’s CPM 16. In Nagaland, the saffron party and its ally Nationalist Democratic Progressive Party (NDPP) are leading in 21 seats, while the ruling Naga People’s Front (NPF) is ahead in 16 seats. In Meghalaya, the ruling Congress has won 21 seats, while the National People’s Party (NPP) came close second with 19 seats. 10.50 pm IST BJP certain to be part of govt in NagalandAlthough the BJP-NDPP alliance failed to secure a majority in Nagaland with the state throwing up a hung assembly, the party’s participation in the future government looks certain. The ruling NPF, which emerged as the single largest party, extended invitation to the BJP to join the new dispensation, though the BJP-NDPP combine may be able to form a government with help from smaller parties like NPP, JD(U) and an independent.
