Chief Minister K. Chandrasekhar Rao has asked the party MPs to confront the Centre seeking permission to hike the reservations in Telangana up to 62 % during Parliament session resuming Monday.
When Tamil Nadu can extend reservations up to 69 % since 1994 by including the State under Schedule IX of the Constitution and Maharashtra can give up to 52 %, what prevented the Centre from letting Telangana enjoy the same concession, Mr. Rao told reporters after a meeting of the Parliamentary party of TRS presided by him.
Mount pressure
He said the MPs will mount pressure on the Centre to concede the demand as it was not right on its part to keep the reservation system to itself. As per Article 16 (4) of the Constitution, reservations was a State subject but the Centre denied the benefit in a bid to enjoy its supremacy.
Mr. Rao also asked the MPs to take up concession of industrial incentives like they were given to Himachal Pradesh and Uttarakhand.
They must also demand concession of all assurances made in Andhra Pradesh State Reorganisation Act 2014 like setting up railway coach factory at Kazipet, Indian Institute of Management and All India Institute of Medical Sciences and linking of National Rural Employment Guarantee programme with agriculture.
