Compact SUVs in India: Another very good reason to get a Tata Nexon!

Tata Motors seem to be building some strong cars! A Tata Nexon compact SUV had rolled over in India, and all the passengers walked away with just minimal injuries and scrapes.

Tata’s ‘Energy Absorbing Body Structure‘ for the Nexon compact SUV isn’t just a collection of fancy terms, and might work in the event of a crash! The company says the Nexon has a “Fully reinforced body structure to ensure utmost safety of the occupants during an unfortunate collision”, and that can be seen in the images of the crash. It isn’t a scientific test by no means, and no way to properly assess the rigidity of a vehicle, but it is reassuring to know that the Nexon despite being a compact SUV managed to stay structurally intact despite turning turtle.

It was a chain of events that lead to the Tata Nexon toppling over, with a small pickup coming opposite to it, and the driver swerving to avoid, and the chain of the events involving a ditch and another passerby resulted in the car toppling. The accident happened in Goa and the owner was with his family of two young children and the wife.

Despite toppling over, the roof remained mostly intact as well and all the doors remained operational. The car took the impact quite well, pointing to a solid build of the Tata Nexon. Even the hatch lid was operational after the accident!

The Nexon now gets an AMT option, and the SUV was launched at the 2018 Auto Expo.

Automobiles are as good as how it protects the passengers in the event of a crash! No matter how flashy they look or give you umpteen kilometres to the litre, if it can’t save you in a car crash, then there is no point in all the other numbers. It is rewarding to notice that automotive safety is becoming a thing of importance in India, with many manufacturers offering airbags and ABS as standard across all variants from the hatchback segment onwards. But we still have a long way to go!

Too lazy to type anything, so re quoting from the best F1 driver in the world: “On a given day, a given circumstance, you think you have a limit. And you then go for this limit and you touch this limit, and you think, 'Okay, this is the limit'. And so you touch this limit, something happens and you suddenly can go a little bit further. With your mind power, your determination, your instinct, and the experience as well, you can fly very high.” ― Ayrton Senna
