The rout of the Congress is well-deserved yet worrisome. Worrisome, because (i) Democracy to survive needs at least two credible parties (ii) the Congress does not seem to have learnt anything from its near total extinction at the polls in 2014. Its plight seems to be self-inflicted for two reasons:(a) it is incapable of looking for the leadership beyond one person who has given clear indication that his mind and heart are not in the hereditary occupation. The Congress certainly faces no drought of capable leadership (b) it can't realize that while it is opposition's duty to pin down the ruling party on its failures, it will take something more to establish your own credibility with the people, particularly when your own face is daubed with sticky paint. None of the spokespersons of the party have cared to establish the party's credibility as a carrier of any alternative, though they are not wanting in eloquence or combativeness without convincing any body.
