Fire in chemical factory

Several garment and chemical manufacturing units were gutted in a fire in suburban Andheri late last on Friday night, a senior civic official said on Saturday. The blaze erupted in one of the units and spread to the other units located in Aslfa village at around 11.45 p.m. and efforts to douse it are still underway, the official of the Disaster Management Cell of the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation said. So far no casualties have been reported and the exact number of units gutted in the fire is yet to be ascertained, the official said.

Ealier last week, the Ambassador of Vietnam had said that Hanoi wished to fully utilise the comprehensive strategic partnership with India and was likely to sign a civil nuclear agreement during the visit.

A nor’easter pounded the Atlantic coast with hurricane-force winds and sideways rain and snow Friday, flooding streets, grounding flights, stopping trains and leaving 1.6 million customers without power from North Carolina to Maine. At least five people were killed by falling trees or branches.

China's annual meeting of parliament

Around 3,000 delegates to the annual meeting of China's largely rubber-stamp parliament, the National People's Congress, will meet in Beijing's Great Hall of the People on March 5 for a session that will last around two weeks.

The counting of votes for the Assembly election in Meghalaya, Nagaland and Tripura began on Friday amid tight security, officials said. Counting began at 8 a.m. in all the three northeastern states, Election Commission sources said. Though the strength of each Assembly is 60, voting was held for 59 constituencies in all the three States, for different reasons.
