Work on the construction of a memorial for former Chief Minister Jayalalithaa on the Marina beach will begin soon.
The Public Works Department has finalised the construction firm and is expected to issue work order in a fortnight, sources said.
According to PWD officials, Krishnamurthy and Co, a firm that was engaged in the restoration of Kalas Mahal and Ripon Building, was chosen. The project is being monitored by a committee comprising the Chennai Metropolitan Development Authority chief planner, PWD engineer-in-chief and Anna University School of Architecture and Planning chief architect.
