Reds claim LHP Labourt from Tigers
The Cincinnati Reds claimed left-handed relief pitcher Jairo Labourt from the Detroit Tigers on Friday.
Labourt, who turns 24 next Wednesday, had been designated for assignment earlier in the week as the Tigers made room for veteran southpaw Francisco Liriano.
Labourt made his major league debut last season with Detroit, where he pitched in six games and allowed three runs and four hits in six innings. Control became an issue at the MLB level, as he walked seven with four strikeouts, as well as at Triple-A in 2017, where he gave up 23 walks in 22 innings in his first career stint at that level with the Toledo Mud Hens.
Originally signed by the Toronto Blue Jays out of the Dominican Republic at age 16 in 2011, Labourt was shipped to the Tigers as part of the three-for-one deal that sent veteran left-hander David Price to Toronto before the 2015 trade deadline.
To make room for Labourt, the Reds transferred right-hander Rookie Davis (hip) to the 60-day disabled list.
