Man suffers instant blindness after assault in club toilet

A man suffered instant blindness after he was punched during a violent assault and armed robbery in Melbourne last month.

The victim was accosted by another man in the toilets of a club in the city about 6am on February 17.

The thug demanded cash and threatened the victim with a metal spike before stealing his sunglasses, following him out of the bathroom and punching him in the head.

Police said the victim suffered instant blindness in his right eye and other facial injuries he is still recovering from.

After the assault the offender ran out the back of the venue to a nearby train station.

Police have released CCTV footage of the man they want to speak to and said he appears to be about 20 years old and 177 centimetres tall with a medium to solid build and dark, curly hair.

He was wearing a distinctive Nena and Pasadena muscle shirt, a black baseball cap, blue jeans and maroon NMD runners.
