Here’s Another Self-Driving Car Concept Without a Steering Wheel
Italian design house Icona will head to the Geneva Motor Show for the very first time.
In tow will be the self-driving car concept called the Nucleus, which Icona is calling “the ultimate self-driving living room.” It’s an evolution of the Icona Neo Concept that first debuted in 2015, but the Nucleus features level-five autonomy, which means it doesn’t need a steering wheel or dash. Like other recent autonomous driving concepts from various automakers, the Icona Nucleus focuses more on the cabin, and how to make the interior more functional and relaxing for the users.

There’s no side glass in the traditional sense on the vehicle, but rather it uses semi-transparent bodycolor panels that allow the occupants to see outside the vehicle, but remain shrouded in privacy while traveling. The Nucleus measures over 17 feet (5.25 meters) and is nearly seven feet wide (2.12 meters). Riding on 26-inch wheels, it stands nearly 5.75 feet (1.75 meters) tall. As you can tell, aerodynamics was a focus in designing the body, giving it a drag coefficient of just under 0.25.
The interior easily houses six people and the seats can be arranged with flexibility, and even has the ability to transform into a couch. There’s even a small table and connections, allowing for the use of laptops and tablets.
