Dodge Dealership Marks Up The Demon To A Staggering $175K!

Dodge Challenger SRT Demon

Dodge recently confirmed that the Challenger SRT Demon would not return for the 2019 model year and this, apparently, has given at least one dealership the idea to slap an insane markup on the drag-focused muscle car.

As Jalopnik reports, Carolina Chrysler Jeep Dodge in Lugoff, S.C. has smacked a $75,000 market premium onto a 2018 Demon. More interestingly, the $75,000 upcharge is in addition to the $2,219 fee that the dealership claims is “Carolina CJDR Dealer Added Value”, whatever on Earth might that be. All in all, the dealership is asking $77,219 over MSRP for the vehicle.

Facebook user David Alden Wilks managed to get a photo of the car’s window sticker and the egregious markup.

This isn’t even the highest price we’ve seen for a Demon. Last May, an example popped up on eBay for $250,000, while more recently we’ve seen used examples with a $140,000 price tag.

While the car only has 21 miles on the clock, it’s still an insane price. The website listing for the vehicle doesn’t have an actual price – it just has $98,437 crossed out with a button to get the E-Price.

The MSRP starts at $84,995 excluding destination fees. That’s well below the $100k mark, which makes it a performance bargain. But at $175k, that’s simply too much – especially considering that the less powerful, but much more premium, 2018 Audi R8 Coupe starts at $168k. Not that this will stop someone from scooping up model #376 of 3,000 anyway.

Dodge actually tried to keep dealer markups down to a minimum when it launched the Demon. However, now that the car’s been on the market, it looks like some of its dealerships aren’t willing to follow the company’s line, opting instead to capitalize on the high demand against the limited supply. Well, that’s the free market for you in a nutshell.

Dodge needs a complete redo of their lineup, instead of making faster versions of their already 10+ year old cars.

It brings up the question… IF you bought that Demon AND a new NSX – and just stored them some place safe – which one would be worth more 20 years from now? Or 50 years from now?

Be sure and store some gas for them.
