Tripura Fisheries Minister Khagendra Jamatia passes away |
Tripura Fisheries and Cooperation minister Khagendra Jamatia passed away at a hospital in New Delhi today. This was confirmed by Deputy Speaker Pabitra Kar.
Jamataia was a CPI(M) candidate from the Krishnapur constituency in the February 18 assembly election. He was 64 and is survived by his wife and two sons.
Party spokesperson, Gautam Das said Jamatia was admitted to Gobinda Ballav Panth Hospital in Agartala after he became ill on February 19. He was shifted to the All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) in New Delhi on February 25 where he was diagnosed with blood cancer.
Jamatia had joined CPI(M) in 1983 and had been winning from Krishnapur constituency since 1988. This is the second setback for CPI(M) after the death of Ramendra Narayan Debbarma who was contesting from Charilam (ST) constituency.
