Overweight Kevin Smith Had a Heart Attack, Disney Sent Him a Cookie
After suffering a massive heart attack, the last thing a doctor would recommend is for a patient to eat a sugary cookie. But that’s exactly what Disney thought filmmaker Kevin Smith needed following his recent attack.
On Monday, Smith tweeted a photo of himself in a hospital bed and revealed that he had suffered a massive heart attack caused by 100 percent blockage of his heart’s left anterior descending artery, or LAD. “If I hadn’t canceled show 2 go to the hospital, I would’ve died tonight. But for now, I’m still above ground."

The Clerks director returned home just two days later and on Thursday was greeted with a get-well gift from Disney—a huge sugar cookie addressed to actor Kevin James. It’s worth noting that the sweet-treat was a vegan cookie, and Smith was totally tickled by the network’s gesture, writing on Twitter, “Friends & folks I work with have been sending thoughtful Get Well baskets since I got home. But @DisneyChannel just won the prize for the funniest gift.”
Later on Thursday the 47-year-old gave his first interview following the health scare and revealed on Ralph Garman’s The Ralph Report podcast that he has officially become a vegetarian.
Smith also said he feels like he is “living on borrowed time” after surviving what could have been a fatal incident. “I don’t want to say I feel like a dead man walking, but I do feel like I’m not supposed to be here anymore. And it doesn’t make me want to leave, but it makes me appreciate how… like, all right, let’s do everything,” he said.
He added: “I was supposed to be dead in that room, no doubt.”
