India has more billionaires than Germany, find out which country has the most

According to Hurun’s 2018 Global Rich List, 437 people became billionaires across the world in the past year, taking the total to 2,694. While China leads the list with the most number of billionaires, India beat Germany to take the 3rd place. Read on to find out which are the top 10 countries that are home to the super-rich.

Brazil and Canada: Home to 49 billionaires each, Brazil and Canada share the 9th spot on the list. Brazil added 6 more billionaires to its list, while Canada earned 14 more. Joseph Safra who owns Banco Safra (pictured) is Brazil’s richest person, while James and Arthur Irving of Canada lead their country on Hunur’s list. (Reuters)

France: The European nation was unmoved at 8th position, with 51 billionaires who have a combined net worth of USD 409 billion. The richest man in world’s luxury capital is Bernard Arnault (pictured) of LVMH. (Reuters)

Russia: The country has 71 billionaires most of whom are in the Energy and Metals and Mining sectors. With a net worth of USD 20 billion, Alexey Mordashov of Severstal is Russia’s richest man. (Reuters)

Switzerland: With 83 billionaires, Switzerland takes 6th spot on the list. The total net worth of these billionaires is USD 330 billion, which increased by 39 percent since last year. At the 28th position, Jorge Paulo Lemman (pictured) of 3G Capital leads is Switzerland’s richest man. (Reuters)

Germany: Dropping 2 spots from last year, Germany added just 5 billionaires to its list and now has 114 overall. Georg Schaeffler (pictured) of Schaeffler group is Germany’s richest person. (Reuters)

UK: With 118 billionaires – the UK has added 29 more from last year – it takes 4th spot. The net worth of these billionaires rose by 41 percent and now stands at USD 416 billion. Leonard Blavatnik is UK’s richest person. (Reuters)

India: With 131 billionaires, the Asian country beat Germany to take the 3rd spot on the list. Reliance Industries Chairman Mukesh Ambani is the richest person in India and takes the 19th spot on Hurun’s 2018 Global Rich list. (Reuters)

US: With 19 new people added, there are a total of 571 billionaires in the US as the country takes second spot on the list. The US also has the most number of immigrant billionaires in the world. Amazon CEO Jeff Bezos is the richest man in the US, as of February 2018. (Reuters)

Greater China: Leading the list once again with 819 billionaires, China has added a whopping 210 billionaires to its list since last year. (Pictured) ‘Pony’ Ma Huateng, CEO of Tencent, is the wealthiest man in China. The report was released in February 2018. (Reuters)
