The Centre has agreed to set up a special cell in the Spices Board for Telangana government to take care of issues related to turmeric farmers. The government also proposed to set up an exclusive Spice Park for turmeric in Telangana. “If the State government comes forward, we will set up a park for turmeric under the Trade Infrastructure for Export Scheme,” Union Minister for Commerce and Industry Suresh Prabhu said.Suresh Prabhu was responding to a letter from Telangana IT and Industries Minister K T Rama Rao, requesting him to establish an exclusive Turmeric Board to focus on issues related to the farmers growing the crop. Telangana is a top producer of turmeric in the country. Farmers, however, end up selling the produce at a lower rate in the absence of protection from the market volatility.
