Five things to watch out for today

Chief negotiators of 16 countries, including India, will meet today in Singapore for the next round of discussions on the proposed mega trade deal--RCEP. Discussions will include a single-tier system of duty relaxation under the RCEP. Under this system, the member countries would deliberate on finalising the maximum number of goods on which duties will either be eliminated or reduced drastically.

Mahindra will unveil its offroad vehicle, the Mahindra Roxor, in the US today. The vehicle was announced at the time of inauguration of the Detroit plant. The Roxor has been designed and developed by Mahindra Automotive North America.

Vietnam President Tran Dai Quang arrives in India on a three-day visit. Ramping up of ties in key areas of defence and trade will be on the top of the agenda. The two sides are likely to sign agreements in the areas of nuclear energy, agriculture and trade and investment during the visit.

Japan’s lower house of parliament will hold a confirmation hearing today for Bank of Japan Governor Haruhiko Kuroda, who has been nominated for another term. The upper house is likely to hold a hearing next month on the BOJ leadership. The nomination needs approval by both chambers, which is a near certainty as Prime Minister Shinzo Abe’s governing coalition holds a comfortable majority.

British Prime Minister Theresa May will deliver a policy speech to outline the sort of relationship London wants with the EU after Brexit and a subsequent transition period, which the bloc wants to see ending at the end of 2020.
