Wenger: I'm just an Arsenal employee

2018-03-01 17:44

Cape Town - Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger insists he is not in control of his future at the club, amidst growing speculation that he is nearing the end of his reign.

The Gunners were handed a 3-0 defeat at the hands of Manchester City in the Carabao Cup final on Sunday, which led to increased calls for Wenger to finally part ways with the north London club.

The 68-year-old signed a new two-year contract with Arsenal last year, but admits those above him at the club have the power to terminate his contract should they see fit.

"I have been here for 21 years and I always respected my contract," he said, according to Sky Sports.

"In life, I look at what people do, not at what they say. If you want me not to be here, that's a different problem. You ask me my commitment, and my attitude is dictated by what I did in my life, not by what I say in a press conference."

When asked about his position, Wenger told a journalist from a national newspaper: "What is above you? You will not decide your future in your newspapers and I am exactly like you.

"I am an employee and I give my best for my club that I love."
