DGP OP Singh’s claim of tremendous improvement in law and order situation in the state took a battering in 24 hours,when Meerut was rocked by a sensational acid attack on two women sports person. The attack took place while the sports women were heading to the stadium for practice on Wednesday morning.
Later, the police claimed to have arrested a woman involved in the crime while efforts were on to nab two of her male colleagues also involved in the attack.
As per reports, pugilist Garima (19) of Partapur (Meerut) and wrestler Shalu (21) of Daurala area (Meerut) were staying at Chaudhary Charan Singh Stadium Hostel and Kailash Prakash Stadium Hostel respectively.
On Wednesday morning, they were going for practice when three motorcycle borne miscreants, including a female, threw acid over them causing serious burns. The accused sped off from the scene of crime after the attack. The victims were later rushed to a hospital and the incident was informed to the police.
SSP of Meerut, Manzil Saini, who rushed to the spot soon after, said that the victims identified the woman accused as Soni of Inchauli (Meerut) and one of the miscreants as her brother-in-law Vijay. The SSP claimed that they raided Soni’s residence and arrested her while eEfforts were being made to arrest Vijay and the other accomplice.
Interestingly, even after arrest of one of the accused, the SSP Meerut failed to explain the motive behind the attack.
