Supply of water from Veeranam lake here to Chennai to meet the drinking water needs was stopped from today owing to poor storage, a Public Works Department official said. The water level in the tank today stood at 2-3 feet as against its maximum of 47.50 feet, R Govindaraj, Assistant Engineer, PWD told reporters at Vadakuthur near here. Hence, the water supply to Chennai, Chidambaram and Kattumannarkoil taluk in this district has been stopped. The official also said the water level has dropped as the tank was not receiving inflow from Mettur dam. However, the department proposed to supply water drawn from Paravanar river, to Chennai, he added.
