LUCKNOW: The rail journey between
Lucknow-Kanpur would be reduced to 30 minutes with the construction of the 121-km heavier tracks on the route.
The construction will begin this month and the tracks will be ready by
2020. The new tracks will be 8kg heavier than normal rail tracks.
The weight of a normal track is around 52-kg per meter.
Northern Railway had conducted a survey six months ago on increasing the speed of trains on Lucknow-Kanpur route.
The survey team recommended increasing the weight of the tracks so that the trains could run faster than present speed of 50-70-km/per hour. The speed is likely to increase to 80-90 km/per hour once the tracks would be ready.
The increased speed will help railways to run more trains on the route. At present, over 80 trains run on the daily.
DRM, NR, Lucknow division,
Satish Kumar said it will take nearly two years to complete the 121-km long section.
